Tims Ford State Park News
Last year, Tims Ford State Park reduced the number of days per week open. This was due to the State budgetary crisis. In order to keep our valuable community resource open, the park is now charging $3 per day for parking. An annual pass can be purchased for $30 per vehicle and $10 for each extra vehicle in the same residence. The park is a worthwhile community asset. Please support the annual pass.
TFC Begins a Volunteer Program
Frank Sanders, TFC Liaison to Tenneessee State Parks, has been working with the TFSP Manager, Michael Robertson to create a Volunteer Program for members of Tims Ford Council. Mr. Robertson has prepared a list of possible programs that TFC members might be interesed in helping with. The are:
Interpertive programs. e.g., Nature hikes, Bird Watching, Tree Identification, etc.
Conduct surveys on user demographics. e.g., Vital Statistics, dates, population, etc.
Conduct inventory research of the cultural and natural resources contained with in the park. e.g., landmarks, etc.
Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of Iris Fund Planning Project (flowers).
Trail work and development, including design and layout of old and new trails.
The TFC Board of Directors has identified this program as a new startup activity for our members. There is a real need to support our State Parks and to help offset budget reductions imposed by the State Legislature. Mike Robertson has agreed to speek at our next meeting, July 14th. If you are interested in participating in any of the above programs, please contact Frank Sanders, 962-4435.
